Sebastian Vettel wins the Beligian Grand Prix 2013
Red Bulls Sebastian Vettel won comfortably at the Belgian Grand Prix 2013. With this victory the three time world champion is 46 points ahead of Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso who came second ahead of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.
Even though Hamilton started the race from the pole after beating Vettel narrowly at the qualifying round, Vettel was able to take the lead in the very first lap and dominated the race thereafter. Vettel briefly lost his lead to McLarens Jenson Button on his first pitstop on lap 14. However Vettel was able to overtake Button on the same lap as Button was yet to take his first pitstop. There after Vettel maintained his lead and won the race 16.8 seconds ahead of Alonso.
Alonso had a much more eventful race. Starting from 9th position he bullied his way up to 2nd position. With an aggressive first lap Alonso was able to move to 5th place overtaking Red Bulls Mark Webber. He overtook Mc Laren’s Jenson Button into 4th in lap four and Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg into 3rd in lap 6. He then finally surpassed Hamilton in lap 14 for second position, finishing 11 seconds ahead of him.
Red bull’s Mark Webber again had a poor start as he slipped from third position to sixth. He managed to pass Button in opening few laps and came very close to challenging Mercedes Nico Rosberg 4th position, coming close to half a second in distance, but during the closing laps lost his pace and finished 3.9 seconds behind Rosberg. Jenson Button maintained his starting position and finished 6th ahead of Ferrari’s Felipe Massa. Lotus’ Romain Grosjean came 8th ahead of Force India’s Adrian Sutil and the final point was taken by Toro Rosso’s Daniel Ricciardo who climed from 19th positioin on the grid to finish 10th.
Lotus’ Kimi Raikkonen had to retire early on due to a brake problem which was causing his Lotus to emit black dust throughout the race.
Force India’s Paul Di Resta started the race at 5th position but was unfortunately caught in a collision involving William’s Pastor Maldonado and Adrian Sutil forcing Resta to retire.
